Layover// Rio de Janeiro & Buenos Aires

Hi hi,

This month I got so lucky, I got the flight that everyone wants, which is Rio and Buenos Aires multi sector. Not only did I get the best flight, I was so lucky to also have the best crew ever, which made these layovers and flights even better.

When we arrived in Rio, the first night, we all went out for drinks by the beach, we were just in time to see the beautiful sunset, and the atmosphere was just perfect, who wouldn’t be happy with a caipirinha in their hand, by the beach, with some music in the background, in Rio de Janeiro… The next morning, a few of us were planning to go hang gliding, if you don’t know what this is, it’s basically jumping off a cliff, with a giant paper plane. People that really know me well, know that I would never do such a thing, because I’m basically scared of everything (especially adventurous things). But, for some reason, people convinced me, and I did it. Also, I was in Rio, how could I not do it?! We got to the top of the mountain, and when I saw the ramp that we would jump off, my heart started to beat out of my chest (at least, that’s how it felt). I was the first one to jump, so I wouldn’t get too scared when I saw other people doing it, so I got ready immediately. We practiced how to run two times, and then it was time for the real thing. I was jumping with Marcelo, who is probably one of the nicest people I’ve met, he made me feel much more confident about doing this, then I was in the beginning, for me it’s important to trust the person I’m doing this with, and I completely trusted Marcelo. So, I looked at the horizon, took a deep breath, started running, and jumped off a cliff (still can’t believe I did that btw). Once we were flying, it was the best feeling in the world, the view was amazing, and you feel so free. Of course, I was still scared, but it was fun at the same time. If you ever go to Rio de Janeiro, you should definitely do this!!

So, even though Rio was my favourite destination on this trip, I also really liked Buenos Aires. We arrived there around dinner time, so a few of us went for dinner at a restaurant called Parrilla Don Julio, we had some really good steak and wine there. The next day, we went to this area, La Boca, it a very nice place, but very touristic. If you go to Buenos Aires, I would recommend going there though, it’s really colourful (so great for fun pictures 😉 ), and it’s such a fun atmosphere there. There’s music playing everywhere on the street, people are dancing the tango, they have some cute shops and restaurants, so it’s a must see.

I really hope I get this flight again some time, because there is so much more to do, and see in both these destinations. It will be very difficult to top this flight, I’ve been back in Dubai for a few days now, and I still miss this trip.

Xoxo,
Laure.

Layover// Cape Town.

Hi everyone,

I’m so excited to tell you about my layover in Cape Town, South Africa. The whole flight there, I couldn’t wait to arrive, because it’s always been a dream of mine to go to South Africa. I was also excited, because we made plans to go for dinner when we landed, I heard that they have amazing steak, and wine in SA, so I couldn’t wait. One of the crew heard about this restaurant called Kloof Street House, so we decided to try it out. If you are ever in Cape Town, you should definitely go there, It might be the best steak I’ve ever had, the atmosphere was very nice, and the wine was very good too.

The next morning we had plans to go hike Lion’s head, but because there was too much wind, they told us it would be dangerous, so we went on a tour instead. We drove around in Cape Town, all the way to Cape of Good Hope, to go to Cape Point, which is the most South-Western point of Africa. The nature there was so beautiful, I’ve never seen anything like it. After that we drove to the lighthouse in the Cape of Good Hope, and hiked up the trail, which was very tiring, because of the wind, at one point I thought the wind would blow me off the mountain, haha. To end the tour we went to the Penguin beach in Simon’s Town, this town is so nice, I would love to have a beach house here some day (a girl can dream right 😉 ). I loved seeing the Penguins on the beach, they’re so cute!!

I decided I’m going to go on holiday to Cape Town, because one day is definitely not enough, there’s so much to see and do there. So far, Cape Town has been the most beautiful place I’ve visited!

Layover// Milan.

Ciao everyone,

Last week I was on airport standby for the first time. This means that you pack your luggage with some winter, and summer clothes, because you don’t know where they might send you. I was really nervous, and I was hoping for a nice layover flight. The moment I got to the standby lounge, they called me to tell me they had a flight for me already, so I went back to the desk, and she told me I was going to Milan, Italy. I was so excited!!! Since I joined, I’ve been hoping to get a flight to Italy (maybe because I love Italian food 🙈).

We got to the hotel in the morning, so we took a little nap, and then Monique (one of my colleagues), and I went to the city around lunchtime. We walked to the Duomo, and found a place to eat some real, Italian pizza in the Piazza del Duomo. It was such a beautiful place, all the expensive stores are located there. After we finished our delicious pizza, we got some gelato, and no I don’t feel guilty about eating all day (that’s basically what I did), because it’s Italy. We were so lucky with the weather, it was a beautiful sunny, spring day, so we walked around some more, and asked some locals where we could fine a rooftop bar to drink some vino in the sun. We ended up spending the rest of the afternoon at terrazza 12, drinking vino in the sun, and meeting some nice Italian people.

I can’t wait to get more Italian flights, I love Italy, and I loved Milan, so I can’t wait to see the rest of the country (and ofcourse, eat more delicious food).

Arrivederci.

Layover// Singapore.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been meaning to write a post about my layover in Singapore, but I was just so busy. I finally found some time, so here it goes.

Singapore, has been one of my favourite layovers so far, and I hope I get another flight there soon. The city is so beautiful, and very clean. One of the most impressive things for me there, was Marina Bay Sands, it’s such a cool building. It was raining when I was in there, so I didn’t go up to the rooftop, but I’ll definitely go next time. When it rains in Singapore, it’s a good idea to go to the Gardens by the Bay. It’s indoors, but you feel like you are outside, and it’s very pretty!

At night, a few of us went to get some street food. One of the things I love most about Asian destinations, is the street food. The place we went to is called Makansutra Gluttons Bay, and I would definitely recommend it. The food is great, and cheap, and you have a nice view of Marine Bay Sands. And when you’re done eating, you can go for a nice walk around the water.

I hope you all have a great weekend!!

Layover// Bangkok.

Sawadikaaa,

For those who don’t know, this is how you say “hello” in Thai, it’s such a fun word to say. I was lucky because I had 48 hours in Bangkok. On the first day, I went to Khoa San road to get some cheap food, and clothes. We took a boat there from the hotel, which was fun because then you get to see some temples. We first had lunch at this really cute place, Madame Musur, it’s right by Khoa San road, and it’s delicious, so if you’re in Bangkok, definitely go there. When we were done eating, we went to Khoa San road, and we shopped, I’m still amazed by how cheap everything is in Thailand, I bought some cute beach dresses, and a bikini, for almost no money. We took a Tuk Tuk back to the hotel, it was really fun, but I was fearing for my life the whole ride, haha.

The second day I was there, I just decided to get a massage, and then stay by the pool at the hotel, because I wanted to get some rest before our flight back to Dubai. I went to Bodyworks, and had an hour long massage, it was really good, and so cheap.

I liked Bangkok, but to be honest, I probably wouldn’t go there for more than two days, because for me it is a little bit to crowded and busy. I hope I get a Phuket flight next time, and I’ll probably visit some Thai islands on a holiday in the future.

Next stop: Manila, Philippines📍

Layover// Perth, Australia.

Hi peeps,

So, I went to Australia for the first time, and I love it!! Even though I only had 27 hours there, I fell in love with Perth, and I will definitely go back there.

We landed at night, so the first thing we did was get something to eat. We went to this place called East Village, it was so good!! I had a burger, and loaded fries that were amazing. I would definitely recommend this place, it wasn’t expensive either. After that, a few of us went to a rooftop bar, Aviary, it is really fun, you can just have a drink there, or if you feel like dancing, that is also possible, the music was really good.

The next morning, we decided to go to Cottesloe beach, since so many people recommended it. I’m so happy we went there, because it was such a beautiful beach, the water is so clear and blue. Also, it was 37 degrees (celsius), so it was too hot to walk around in the city. We had lunch at The Blue Duck, which is right on the beach, so of you sit outside you have a beautiful view of the ocean. Around 3pm we went back to the hotel to get some sleep before our flight. I wasn’t too tired yet, so I decided to have a little walk around the lake in the city. I really love Perth, the city is not too big, and the lake makes it even nicer.

I can’t wait to get more Australie flights!!

Next stop: Bangkok.

Layover// Amsterdam.

Hi everyone,

As told in my previous post, I’m going to tell you a bit more about my layovers, and Amsterdam was the first one. I was so excited about this flight, because I was going to see my family back. I hadn’t seen them since I moved to Dubai two months ago, so I couldn’t wait to land in Amsterdam.

Let me tell you about the flight first… So, before you actually operate as a cabin crew, you have to do two Supy flights, which basically means you’ll observe the crew, and familiarize yourself with the aircraft, and the service. The crew was so nice to me, they all wanted to help me, and make my flight really enjoyable. I got the chance to take-off, and land in the Flight deck of the A380 (superjumbo), it was amazing!! Long story short, I observed, helped a little bit with the service, and ate a whole lot of good food (yes, Emirates has really good food on board).

While I was going down the escalator in the hotel, I was immediately looking for my family. When I spotted them in the lobby, I had an instant smile on my face, I can’t describe how happy I was to see them. I went to my room to change quickly, and then we just had dinner at the hotel, since it was already pretty late. The next day we woke up early to go to the city. Amsterdam isn’t far from Antwerp (where I’m from), so I’ve already been a couple of times, so we knew where to go. One of my favorite parts of the city is “de 9 straatjes” (nine streets), they have a lot of really cute restaurants there, and they have a lot of nice shops. After a nice day of walking around (and shopping, ofcourse) in the city, we headed back to the hotel to say goodbye. I think those might have been the shortest 24 hours ever, they went by so fast. I really hope saying goodbye to my family will become easier with time. Anyway, I’m so grateful I got to see them after two month already, and we had a great time together.

Next layover: Perth, Australia!!

I can’t wait to tell you more about my first time in Australia, I’m so excited to go there.
